the computer problem was fixed. it turns out to be svchost.exe (the actual microsoft thing, not a virus) that was wrecking havoc...so now that problem's gone, my computer is almost normal! (almost, because it, like its owner, seldom has a solid point of normality.)
mother has this random book about learning spanish that she got in china (i think i've said this already, but what follows is all new) and this morning she just randomly opened this book, read a few lines, and told me "see, tang bee an ai sss doo yah." i gave her my "i haven't a clue what you're talking about" look. it turns out she's saying "si, tambien es tuyo." zhong-wen and espanol does not mix well, especially the accent parts.
out for now, maybe more later. maybe not.
